"While Queen Zixi of Ix has seemingly little to do with the Land of Oz, fans of L. Frank Baum may discover something in it akin to an undiscovered Oz Book hiding right under their noses. Queen Zixi of Ix, or the Story of the Magic Cloak was first published as a serialized story beginning in late 1904 in the children’s magazine St. Nicholas, and ran in installments for almost a year through October 1905. This period followed the release of Baum’s second Oz book, The Marvelous Land of Oz, in July of 1904 and further established Baum as America’s foremost author of children’s fantasy.
Although Baum continuously attempted to branch away from writing about Oz, he couldn’t help but commingle the worlds he created in neighboring fairy countries to Oz.
